Yes. You will need to provide veterinary technicians the help prep the patient, and assist with running the anesthesia under Dr. Jackson’s direction, helping recover the patient and
discharge the patient.
If the patient requires overnight care, then the patient should be transferred to an overnight care facility to provide pain management and supportive care. In most cases, this arrangement will be anticipated in advance.
Dr. Jackson has extensive training and experience in anesthesia. He will help determine the appropriate anesthesia protocol for the patient based on the anesthesia drugs you utilize in your clinic. It may be necessary for you to purchase specific anesthesia drugs if it is expected that those will provide the best care possible for the patient. Under the direction of Dr. Jackson, your veterinary technician will be expected to assist with anesthesia care and monitoring during surgery.
Dr. Jackson will have an initial examination of the patient that includes a face-to-face or telehealth consultation. This will include a discussion about the procedure and provide the owner with detailed information about the process. This meeting will generally take place in the week before the scheduled surgery date, but when necessary, may take place immediately before surgery.
The patient will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment(s) at your clinic with Dr. Jackson. Any necessary care or attention before that appointment will be managed in collaboration with the primary care veterinarian.
Dr. Jackson will email discharge instructions to the pet owner. A printed copy of those instructions will be provided to your hospital to give to the client at discharge. Dr. Jackson will also provide prescriptions for any post-operative medication required.
